This service works with families under stress
A social worker visits the family weekly over a period of months to provide intensive support for the care of children
Referrals can be made by the family or by another agency or service
To be accepted for this service the family must
-- Be committed to making some changes
-- Have child(ren) 16 years or under in their care
A thorough assessment will be carried out with the family in order to identify
-- Issues and concerns the family is facing
-- The family’s strengths and resources
-- The role for Family Support Services
-- Immediate needs
The assessment generally occurs within 3 weeks of the referral
A social worker will be allocated to the family
The social worker will visit the family weekly. The family will be asked to establish some clear goals and tasks to achieve these goals will be negotiated
These tasks may include
-- Working with some particular learning resources
-- Practising some skills
-- Accessing community resources
-- Dealing with other professionals or services
After 3 months these goals will be reviewed with the family.
An after hours emergency service is available to families using our social work service.
